Meet Megan: On Becoming a Mum at 22, Building a Business, and Never Losing Herself…

A huge thank you to Megan for sharing her story with us. Megan is a photographer who specialises in documenting women through every stage of life, from girlhood to motherhood and everything in between. In this post, she opens up about becoming a mum at 22, building her business as a single parent, and why she believes motherhood doesn't erase the woman you were before it.

Here's Megan, in her own words:

I had my son at 22, at a stage in my life where I didn't feel entirely ready, but do we ever? I didn't really know what I was doing with my life or career, but despite all of that, having my son just felt right. I trusted that I'd figure the rest out.

Now, at 26, I'm raising my son as a single mum while building my photography business, which focuses on documenting other mothers' journeys.

It isn't always easy. There are days when I question myself, when balancing motherhood and work feels impossible, and days when I'm exhausted from juggling it all. But I have such a clear vision of the life I want to create for us that it keeps me going. I'm building a future that I hope my son will one day look back on and feel happy, safe and loved. I want to show him that it's okay to dream big, work hard, and create something meaningful that you're passionate about.

Photography has become more than my career; it's become my way of telling women's stories. My life and work are very intertwined, but in the best way.

I specialise in photographing women through every stage of life: from girlhood to motherhood and everything in between. Because I don't believe motherhood erases the woman you were before. I believe she's still there. Sometimes she's hidden beneath sleepless nights, school runs, housework and endless mental lists, but she's still dreaming, still creating, still figuring life out one day at a time.

Every session I photograph is about reminding women of that. Not picture-perfect motherhood, but real connection, real emotion and real memories.

Being a single mum has shaped the way I see people. It has made me appreciate resilience, softness and the quiet strength women carry every single day. If sharing my journey helps even one mum realise that she can still chase her dreams, build something she's proud of, and hold onto the parts of herself that existed before motherhood, then it's worth telling.

Because no matter how old we are or what season of life we're in, I think we're all still just girls, learning as we go.

Thank you, Megan, for being so open about your journey, from becoming a mum at 22 to building a business around helping other women hold onto themselves through motherhood. Stories like this are exactly what we love sharing.
